Grand Theft Auto. That’s exactly what happened to D&P customer Tom M. He owned a very nice 56 Belair for years but some low life auto thief stole the car from his Southern California garage. Unfortunately, the 56 was never found so D&P helped find Tom another 56. The new car was a good project car but needed to be restored. The crew at D&P put a build plan together and then performed a complete body-off-the-frame restoration. Tom already had purchased a rare motor a GM Performance ZL1 all aluminum big block crate engine. Tom’s new 56 received all the goodies. A GM 4 speed automatic transmission was installed behind the impressive ZL1. A 12 bolt differential with 3:73 gears and posi-traction was installed out back to handle the power. The body was smoothed to perfection by D&P and sprayed a custom House of Kolor pearl metallic two tone. The suspension was modernized with late model power steering with an Ididit tilt column, Baer 4 wheel disc brakes, power windows, crossflow aluminum radiator, vintage air conditioning, a custom leather interior with modern bucket seats. Tom now enjoys cruising his “new” 56 all over Southern California.
