Automotive trade courses to be canceled at Long Beach City College

THE AUTOMOTIVE AND TRADE COURSES AT LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE SCHEDULED FOR TERMINATION

LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE AUTOMOTIVE COURSES NEED YOUR HELP. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT IN SHOWING HOW IMPORTANT AUTOMOTIVE COURSES AND ALL OF THE OTHER TECHNICAL TRADE COURSES ARE TO THE COMMUNITY.

Hello Everyone,

As a fellow veteran, I feel compelled to share this issue with you. Some of you may already know that many schools began to cut vocational programs at the high school level a couple of years ago. Now, Long Beach City has decided to cut all of their skilled trades including all automotive programs.

Beginning November this year, they are cutting 17 programs at Long Beach City College including all automotive technology courses. Now as many of you are aware, the automotive trades are a skill that many begin learning during their military years and is where I began my automotive training.

It is important to many vets returning from service to be able to be able hone their skills and get a decent paying job. Auto Body is a particularly hard to find program in the Long Beach area and a hard to teach skill without proper zoning and equipment such as a spray booth for painting. In addition, there are other programs in this area like WYOTECH who offer mechanics training but no such autobody programs within several miles of the Pacific Coast Campus. Please submit to me any ideas, contact information you find pertinent, or any help you can offer. As a community we need to pull together and save the skilled trades and automotive programs like auto body for the next generation.
